URGENT: Guinea Pig emergency?
My daughters 5 year old guinea pig to the vet today because it is not able to eat or drink. There was also a snorting kind of noise, the only way to describe it is to compare a cat to snore. At first vet thought it was his teeth that The problem was, but after he noticed some liquid that his shortness of breath and decided it's either something with his neck, or possibly lung. We were greeted with some Antibiotics, special food to feed him with a syringe, and a heat mat, as if the vet sent his temperature was very cold. He also has a considerable amount lost to late. Can to make a point, we do not want, so the pigs do not suffer unnecessarily, so we watch him overnight and took him back in the morning so the Veterinarian to monitor any progress. Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong with the pig? if so, there is no known treatment or do you think is best for them would be euthanasia? Thank you.
It sounds as if your guinea pig has an upper respiratory infection and needs exactly the proposed treatment at the vet has. Most of the guinea pigs react Critical Care Food and nothing to eat, however it is in fact a lot of them will eat from a spoon, so you might want trying, if not feed syringe. I had a very sick pig once that refused food for 14 days and I kept them alive in the critical care as soon as they They gathered again chose to eat their whole weight. I'm not trying to tell you, do not go to the vet in the morning, if it makes you feel better, but in the meantime do you follow the instructions of the veterinarian and given a few days you should see a difference. Just because your guinea pig does not 5, you should consider it is old and give it what it can pull through this and live long.
