Why can’t one record audio of a snoring person?

My husband sounds like a freight train and as a joke I want to record this awful sound. Does anyone know why speech records but not the sound of his snoring? He doesn’t believe just how loud he really is. He has sleep apnea. Thank You!

If you are using voice activation on a mechanical tape recorder, it may not be quick enough to catch short bursts of loud snoring. the snort is over before the tape gets up to speed. Digital recorders are quicker and have recently become very affordable.

If it doesn’t record with automatic gain control on, try turning off the automatic gain control and set the sensitivity high. Note that sounds at night seem louder than the same sound in daytime when there is more background noise.
