Has anyone ever had septoplasty to cure snoring?

Did it work? Do you and did you smoke/drink? My boyfriend is due to have this done and someone told me today that they did and it hasn’t made any difference- i don’t want him to go through that if its not going to make any difference.
We have tried sprays, nasal clips, strips, gentle nudging and not so gentle nudging, the tickling of the neck and other places techniques as well as the separate rooms technique- its driving us mad because he wakes himself up-

Well, The one and Only Libby, you have brought up another very interesting question. I have a very similar situation. (Coincidentally, we are getting married on the 20th of this month) My fiancee’ and I have a beautiful son together. We met when he dropped by my store I had in Manhatten. We hit it off instantly. I know it will sound corny, but we fell in love at first site. We DID carry out dating, living apart and living on cloud 9 for close to 3 years. He then moved into my apartment in America, but he flew back and forth to UK many, many times to fulfill obligations to his 2 sons from a previous marriage so he was not with me 24/7 like most couples do when they move in together. It was only after 3+ years that I became pregnant, and He still kept on going back and forth during the first 6 months of my pregnancy……but THEN……..He “lived” with me. He slept right beside me 7 nights ONLY AT THAT point in our relationship did I discover the serial-snorer in him. Needless to say, at night, shortly after he stayed close to home all the time he showed his “Shrek” side, so severe that it was like he became posessed or something-lol (I call him “Buzzlightyear” actually).Anyway, he started snoring one night, and it woke up the neightbours next door, who happened to be my folks with his rummble. It came out of nowhere.-Never before had I EVER experienced such a horrific experience because of a person snoring. It affected/affects me so much, that there were times that I’d be running on 3-5 days with literally no more than 2 hours each day. His own stereo-high fi sounding snoring wskes HIM up. To get skip ahead 7 yrs.: I am UNABLE to sleep in the bed with him. I am unable to sleep in the 2nd floor bedroom that we have in our townhouse (he sleeps on 3rd floor master bedroom, en-suite, I swear,”all the snorers have it made”!) and we’ve got neighbours on both sides. I have my own study/office with a pull-out sofa bed, and I sleep in there. My son often asks me to sleep with him, at least until he falls asleep, then he knows I’ll go to my office. But, my sons room and he’s got comfy bunk beds, is big, and I often wake up,and it’s 6 a.m., etc.
THIS is NO good!-We tried the strips on the nose, nasal sprays, homeopathic remedies, change of diet, full check up at GP which DID show high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but that has no effect on one’s ability to snore or not. I asked his GP if he would please give him a referral to a “ear, nose and throat” surgeon because of TWO reasons, first is the obvious: The Chainsaw Snoring, and secondly, I know a bit about sleep apnea, and I thought he definitely had that. That exam turned out to show that he doesn’t have sleep apnea, has a deviated septum, and it was then that I got a “fess-up” if you will (He told me of his years partying and the result is this) Besides my being surprised, not at what he did per se’ because he is a totally different person completely than he was 34 years ago (he is 15 yrs my senior), but I was totally surprised he never told me of that little..um, shall we just say “skeleton in his old closet”. Well, we are still together, our son is a total blessing and the greatest. We did everything completely backwards, (Live together, have a child together) and NOW we are doing the marriage part. I have even convinced him to agree for us to move away from where we are and move close to the seaside with better breathing air, and more importantly, no neighbours HERE that are so hostile because they hear his snoring also most times. We are keeping our house, letting it, and moving away. The tension in the air with our neighbours could be cut with a knife, they are snobby people. My fiancee’ even approached the man next door one morning and told him, he is sorry he is snoring, and he is more sorry that the man’s wife is constantly throwing things at the wall (on the 3rd floor). Bottom line, I love him. we have a great family together, and there is NOTHING ON THIS PLANET THAT CAN HELP OUR SITUATION. The surgery is not even an option for him due to previous medical condition. And I am even starting to run “scenarios” over and over in my head very often of the moment when it is my turn to say “I DO”, I hope that I am refreshed, and not sleep deprived that day because I “JUST” may say-”I DON’T”, because to me, marriage is for life. But 100% seriously, I will say “I DO” regardless, and knowingly having the understanding that I am going to live with his snoring “until death do us part”…hmmmmmm

I just saw your post Earwigo, it printed right after mine showed up, WHAT (if you would be so kind as to share with us) is the name of this “Anti-Snore” spray that you say WORKS???-If I got it, and it worked, I’d give you ALL my points, AND take my (future) mother in law!-Just kidding.
