My child has Autism and ADHD, and also hearing loss from ear infections. Tonsillectomy? Adenoidectomy?
He has had 3 sets of tubes in his ears prior. He still gets fluid build up in his ears and has a substantial hearing loss because of this. His (new) ENT wants to try a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, as well as a new set of tubes to correct this problem. However, he does not snore and doesn’t meet any of the other criteria Ive read about to get a tonsillectomy. Has anyone or their children had a tonsillectomy? Just how painful is it? Is it worth it to try to correct his hearing, or could this just be a symptom of autism? I am very confused and scared and dont want to unnecessarily put my child through surgery. Any suggestions?
Apparent deafness is a symptom of autism. Our son appeared to be deaf, and lost all speech. We wasted valuable time with an ENT that did unnecessary ear tube surgery. I advise you to get a second opinion.
