Husband leaving for Iraq, again..what do they call…?

When they get back from war it is Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome…But he is really being mean right now and stressing before he leaves…is there a term for their behavior before they leave? Something more than just stress…?

I know you are going to ask for examples…he was home for a week and he just didnt talk. He got mad cause I snored..he slept on the floor…seems everything I did annoyed him. We need to move, and he didnt lift a finger or even mention it. I am pregnant and wanted some attention….I think he did too…and wonder if he was just annoyed/stressed/disappointed cause there was not party…but he is gone and is cursing me and all this. We’ve been married for 4years and have one kid, and one on the way….Just wondering if there is a term for it besides basic stress. I do think his first deployment changed him. I am in the military, but I never deployed, just mobed. Just looking for ideas or advice….

This is actually a phase of deployment called pre deployment stress. It includes stress, anxiety, and most of all distancing. A husband and wife will subconciously distance themselves, emotionally, physically, and mentally before a deployment. Anger is involved because the situation (somebody going to war) is already stressful enough. The two weeks before a deployment is when a couple or family will experience the most stress out of the entire deployment, besides redeployment which comes after and R&R. Just dont’ push too hard on subjects and let things be. Talk to him about your feelings, but understand if he is just as distant or emotional.
There are some military websites that can help you with online classes that teach you about deployment. It is called Battlemind Spouse Training.
Also look into your Unit’s FRG, they can help you.
