Does anyone know a good remedy for dry mouth? Preferably herbal…?

I just posted a group for having trouble sleeping but i forgot to mention that one of my problems is i get the worse dry mouth when i wake up no matter how much water or gum i drink or chew before bed. The problem may be due to snoring. Does anyone know a pill or root that may help me salivate or relief dry mouth over night.

If you have a dry mouth from snoring, then you need to do something about the snoring. Try changing positions. The classic “cure” is sewing a tennis ball into your pyjamas in the small of your back (no help if you sleep in the nude of course) If you are a heavy snorer, or even stop breathing (apnea) you may have a problem with enlarged tonsils or adenoids, or have obstructive apnea. You need to see a doctor to sort that out

The doctor word for dry mouth is sicca. There are several diseases that may cause it, but usually you would have other symptoms such as dry eyes, skin rashes, joint pains etc. Some medications may dry the mouth…even herbal ones so check with your doctor if you are on any meds or taking herbs (or read the warnings that come with them or go online).

There is actually an “artificial saliva” that you can get at the drugstore. Ask your pharmacist. Some of them are even advertised at the right side of this window. I can’t vouch for who advertises on Yahoo. Caveat Emptor.

If you smoke or drink alcohol a lot, that will dry your mouth out. If you have poor oral hygiene, that may be the problem.

Ironically…drinking TOO much water may dry your mouth out, by removing the protective mucus layer. If you are one of those people constantly drinking your bottled water…stop for a few days and that should fix the problem.
