19 month old STILL waking up at night!?
My son just turned 19 months today and he still wakes up at night. He wasn’t a pacifier baby instead a bottle baby. So to him his bottle of milk at night is his paci. He didn’t wake up last night but im sure he’s going to wake up tonight. I did the horrible thing of allowing him to go to bed with the bottle, if you are just going to put me down about that go else where!
He wakes up screaming and crying not just a little cry. Im not going to do the cry it out method because it hasn’t seemed to work and plus since he screams and cries i know the people next door who share a wall with his room can hear him because i can hear them snoring!!!
What are some methods to “train” him to self sooth and even to not wake up anymore? He does sleep with blankies and his monkey…
Firstly I completely sympathise with you it’s not easy, particularly when you have the added pressure of neighbours.
My daughter didn’t sleep through the night until she was three.
I think however you definitely need to stop the bottle in cot, just because it’s bad for his teeth if nothing else.. You will need to work on this over a week.
Take him up to his room let him have his bottle outside his crib, maybe whilst you sing him a lullaby or read to him. Then when you put him in his cot say hello Mr Monkey and night night bottle. Get him to participate in saying this. If he fusses just keep repeating that the bottle was very tired and has gone night night and so should he.
He will fuss, the first few nights but if you don’t give in this will pass after a week. he will cry, babies do.
Go to your neighbours and worn them that you are trying to sleep train your child and that their might be a week or so of extra crying/fussing.
Go to him when he wakes in the middle of the night and say, that the bottle is sleeping and MR Monkey needs a cuddle. he will definitely cry and fuss the first three nights, but things will get easier. Just stay strong.
Hope this helps.
