Tonsils: to remove or not to remove — that is the question….?

I am currently 19 and I was thinking about the up’s and end’s of having my tonsils removed. I have always had one tonsil that is somewhat large throughout my teenage years and tend to have sore throats from time to time. I usually don’t have too much of a problem with snoring, yet I tend to breathe through my mouth during night on many occasions.
At this point, would having my tonsils removed be beneficial? I don’t like the idea of removing something from my body….even though the uses of the tonsils seem to be minimal in the body…..sooo, what do you think?

I’m probably not one to advise you as I have been told by doctors for the last 15 years that I should have my tonsils removed but I am to chicken to.( I am 33)
If the doctors are advising you to get your tonsils removed you really should as the older you get they harder the recovery time and the worse the symptoms can get each time you get tonsillitis and antibiotics take way longer to kick in when I get tonsillitis now.
The last few time I have had tonsillitis I have hallucinated and have no real memory of it,which has had me thinking seriously for the first time about getting them taken out.
