Snoring is Not Just an Annoying Condition

Many people believe snoring is just one of those irritating conditions and to some extent quite funny too. Sadly, that’s not the case for snoring seriously affects your overall quality of life and usually leads to a life threatening condition known as sleep apnea.

Because most of us are not knowledgeable about this health problem, we don’t usually mention this to our family doctor nor seek any medical attention to treat it. To make the situation worse, some medical professionals do not even bother asking their patients if they’re having any sleep-related disorders such as snoring.

Snoring is also considered as a social problem. You may find it weird but that loud annoying noise you hear from someone who snores can cause bigger personal problems such as social isolation, chronic depression and yes believe it or not, divorce. For couples, snoring is nightly problem for both parties. Some get kicked out of the room while others end up in a big fight. Understandably, you’ll be irritated too if you lose sleep every night and you can’t do anything about it. In the long run, it will lead to frustration, resentment and divorce.

Snoring affects your daily performance too regardless if you’re student, an employee or an athlete. Because snoring disturbs your sleep every night its cumulative effect will affect your level of energy the following day. It will make you less productive and sleepy at home, on the job and on the road. You’ll be prone to errors and even tragic accidents. If you work in a field where accuracy is of utmost importance or travel is a must then snoring will greatly affect your daily performance. To make situation worse, your partner will also suffer this same problem for he or she is losing sleep as well.

Several studies from around the world indicate snoring can lead to lack of concentration and even memory problems. It means it can affect your IQ, reaction time, verbal fluency, visual coordination and your ability to remember stories you’ve recently heard. It will also hamper your ability to learn new things, concentrate on tasks and perform regular functions.
