Is Yoga During Pregnancy Safe?

Yoga is a very good exercise. But the question is, is it good to do your yoga exercises when you find out that you are pregnant? There are many benefits that yoga can give you but what benefits does it give to an expectant mother? Let’s make things clear, all types of exercises are good for pregnant women, specifically yoga. Consult your doctor if you can do any kind of work out during your pregnancy just to be more safe. When you’re pregnant, you should always be super extra careful.

It should be clear that you need to start things slow if you haven’t exercised prior to your pregnancy. Though exercise is good for expectant moms however it cal lead to miscarriage because it can also be a strenuous activity. Common sense would say that if you get dizzy or feel uncomfortable while doing a particular position during your yoga exercise, you better stop what you are doing. Some positions in yoga are not for pregnant women, especially lying on your stomach. Lying on your back could also restrict proper blood flow so avoid poses which include lying on your back.

Pregnant women can use a chair to help them with their balance. They can also use the wall for balance. The center of gravity while you are pregnant is a little bit different. So yoga would help in keeping balance. Better be careful as not to fall because falling can definitely harm your baby. You can keep distance between your breast bone and your pubic bone to improve your breathing. When bending forward, you can use a towel to wrap around your feet while holding both ends so that you can avoid squeezing the abdomen.

In your stretching, keep your pelvis upright so that you can stretch your chest and thighs properly. Twist from the shoulders rather than the abdomen. Don’t over-do stretching routines because it can cause abdominal strain. Read your body cues as not to strain your body. Be able to read your body signs. After all, you are doing exercises not for muscle development but for maximum pregnancy benefits.
