Snoring and Sleep Apnea – Signs and Solutions

Many people think of snoring as annoingy. What is sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that affects both the quality of sleep but also more importantly, the breathing process. While sleeping, the patient will stop breathing for periods of 10 seconds or longer which will wake him up as he is struggling to breathe. These absences of breathing are called “apneas”. Usually the patient is unaware of these struggling episodes.

In certain cases, sleep apnea can be cause by an external situation such as an accident, family problems, heart problems and narcolepsy. It was also held responsible either partially or totally for SIDS also known as sudden infant death syndrome.

The Warning Signs:
Sleep apnea is something that is still well misunderstood. There are many people who suffer from this condition, but only 2% to 4% of cases are diagnosed and treated accordingly. There are several treatments, but the first thing to do is ensure that the true issue is apnea snoring, which could be very dangerous if left unnoticed.
Loud snoring and chronic. If your sleeping partner is complaining about extremely loud snoring almost every time you go to sleep, you could be suffering from snoring and sleep apnea together. This is the first indicator that there is a serious issue which must be treated. 
Snoring is intermittent with pauses. If you notice that your partner snores, then stops on a break now and then, releasing a large amount of air when you start snoring again, it is possible to warn of a possible problem. 
Excessive daytime sleepiness. If you are still the recommended eight hours of sleep every night, but still there are very sleepy during the day, you could suffer from sleep apnea snoring. This could be causing you to stop breathing during the night, causing your body to tire out before you even wake up.
