A Weekend Break in Norfolk
I am an armchair pilot fortunately with pilot friends and one of my great pleasures is cadging a ride with a couple of friends on a nice weekend break.
We recently decided to fly to North Norfolk. We are based in Essex, so it’s just a short hop over Suffolk, skirting Norwich and up over to Cromer. We then followed the coast to the west and landed at Snoring (yes, Snoring – an old Norse name, isn’t it great?!). I have to say that this was my first time in this part of the world and my first impressions from the air were what a beautiful, green, county it is. As none of us had any great knowledge Roger (the pilot) had searched for North Norfolk Hotels.
For the first night, we were booked into a Norfolk Luxury Hotel (a B&B actually) in the centre of a little, Georgian, market town called Holt. Before checking Holt out we drove up to the coast to take a closer look at a beach we spied from the air. This turned out to be Holkham and what a beautiful wild expanse of sky and sand it is – I can truly recommend this place, and I will definitely return there with my girlfriend and a nice picnic hamper.
We drove along the beautiful coast to a place called Weybourne where the shore turns to flint with cliffs rising to dizzying 60-odd feet; nothing short of mountainous for this part of the world!
From there we headed south to Holt which turned out to be a truly pretty little place and we enjoyed a great dinner at our lovely B&B.
Having had a wonderful night’s sleep, I went out for a morning run. The area is home to some really pretty countryside, accessible within minutes of the town centre, and I ran out for some time before heading back for a slap-up full English.
We moved off to The Broads mid-morning to do a bit of boating which was a lot of fun before exploring hotels in North Norfolk for a further two nights.
A big thumbs up to Norfolk and its people.
