Hold A Great Children’s Party With Project Management- Part 1

If you are a mum or dad, chances are, you will have hosted a kid’s party or two in your day and I know I don’t need to explain that preparing one of them can sometimes be a ticket to Stress City. Apart from all of the effort that goes into organizing a party, there is no certainty that it will be a winner as there are so many variables, covering anything from the freak hailstorm that targets your home during the party to the outburst a youngster throws because he dislikes yellow balloons. Of course, there’s no way to prevent these unforeseeable occurrences but you do have total control over setting up the event itself, despite the fact that it’s of little comfort when the party you worked so faithfully to organize is a snore fest. Nothing could possibly be worse than having a bunch of snotty six-year-olds, green about the gills from consuming too many marshmallows, whining to their mommies about the less-than-mind-blowing entertainment they experienced at your child’s party. Before you take out a second bond to avoid being called a party blooper, there is a solution to successfully hosting a kids’ party by simply implementing a few basic project management methods ahead of time. In project management communities, planning is reckoned to be even more crucial than the actual implementation of the event and is the main focus of Part 1 of our guide on how to throw an excellent children’s party. Here’s how to do it:

Start in advance

The secret to planning a successful party is to start well ahead of time. It’s not necessary to begin the same day your offspring are born, three months prior to your son or daughter’s birthday is a realistic time frame, and by ‘start’ I am talking about start thinking of what you’re want to do. Some people enjoy hosting parties and are natural party planners; they make it look effortless, as though they simply whipped it up in a single day, and usually hold the best parties. But any good party planner will tell you that a seemingly straightforward party is always the result of lots of advance planning.

Brainstorm

Get a note pad and jot down thoughts as they occur to you. At this point, you ought to be all about brainstorming ideas and allowing your imagination to go wild. The main thing is to generate ideas and write them down on paper, even if they are outlandish or expensive, you can always remodel them later. If you are short on ideas, you can get them to come to you. Lending books on children’s parties from the local library is a good place to start, as is doing an internet search for children’s party ideas. Simultaneously, list the themes that you know have already been used at any of your kid’s friend’s parties and steer clear of them as they’ve been done before.

Get help

It is often easier to attempt a job when you have additional hands, and minds, to assist you so enlist help if you can. Mothers and mothers-in-law make good helpers because they have lots of experience; here’s hoping you share a good relationship with yours.

Draft an event management plan

Once you have a good idea for a party that you want, it’s time to draw up an event management plan. The plan ought to include the date, venue and who will be invited as well as a description of the theme and if you plan to hire a magician, a jumping castle, or a pony, for example. Make a list of everything you have to do for the party and transfer it to a table showing dates of when you’re planning to do it all. Provide a block of time in the beginning to do research on the feasibility of your idea and to write down a budget. This way, you will avoid running over budget and wasting time on tasks that you later scrap because the idea behind them wasn’t doable.
