Why Do People Snore?

Snoring is so frequent  today that you will think we have now a serious case of sleep breathing disorders.

People start to be interested in the problem of snoring when their bed partners tell them that they are snoring. They don’t have any idea that they can make such a terrible sound, because snoring happens when they are sleeping. Probably your soulmate told you the same thing, that you have a terrible snoring while you sleep. Or perhaps you are his or her soulmate and you are trying to find a cure for your soulmate who sleeps close to you.

So, why do people have snoring and how can they stop this disorder?
Before trying to stop snoring, you need to find the causes of this annoying disorder. You maybe think that snoring is because of an obstruction of the airway, since you saw that all these problems happen in the airway area, such as neck, mouth or nose.

However, what is the obstruction mechanism? It should be something that obstructs your airway. When you sleep, the muscles from your neck that keep your airway open to breathe, become relaxed and floppy. So, if you’re sleeping on your back, these soft and floppy tissues are pulled down by gravity, causing the airways to become smaller and to make that horrible sound called snoring.

Everybody has soft tissues in his mouth, like the uvula, the soft palate and adenoids. That means that everybody should snore? Well, no. Snoring is more common in people who have the following risk factors:

•    Weight gain – obese persons has an increasing risk to develop snoring.
•    Gender – snoring is more frequent in men than in women .
•    The cigarette is another risk factor for snoring, since it can reduce the lung capacity to breathe and often cause breathing issues.
•   Sleeping tablets and alcohol relaxes the soft tissues when you are asleep.
•    Nasal polyps, colds and allergies, or a wounded nose can be a factor to obstruct your airways.
•    Pregnant women can also have snoring. The major cause is the weigh gain, mainly in the last period of pregnancy.

When you look at these snoring causes it’s not hard to see how can you treat snoring. Try to get rid of the cause and you will have a quiet sleep.

However, some people can’t treat snoring so easily. Not only that they snore, but the sound they make is very powerful and irregular. They often gasp for air, and stop breathin in sleep for ten seconds or more. You will understand that your issue is not a common snoring breathing disorder, but something worse.

Well, you’re right!  A person who has very loud and irregular snoring and repeatedly stops breathingin his sleep, has asleep breathing disorder called sleep apnea. Have you ever heard about obstructive apnea? Sleep apnea is one of the most frequent sleeping disorder, after snoring. It’s so threatening because it has some serious side effects, such as:

•    high blood pressure
•    irregular beats of the heart
•    stroke
•    obesity
•    diabetes
•    anxiety
•    Chronical Depression
•    Chronic fatigue syndrome
•    daytime sleepiness, accidents at work or when you are behind the wheel.
•    Death.

Obstructive sleep apnea can’t be cured like snoring. It’s easier to treat a milder case of obstructive sleep apnea, than a moderate or severe cause.
