My pediatrician and an ENT wants to remove my infant palate and adenoids.?
My son is 3 years old. He is a mouth breathing and snores a lot. His pediatrician referred him to an otolaryngologist, was that in November 2008 because they noticed his tonsils and adenoids were swollen. The ENT recommended that he have his adenoids and possibly his tonsils removed. I wanted to wait until summer, because I am a teacher and wanted to be with him at home. Well, here we are, it's summer. And I feel a little worried. He just went for his check-up three years and his tonsils were still swollen. He just does not seem to be that no major problems and I am not sure if I put him through the pain of surgery. I want any kind of advice you can give to this situation. Should I go ahead and have the polyps and tonsils removed now, or wait, if his breathing improved or worsened? Thanks for the help.
The problem is that the older he gets the more painful will be the operation. You do not say whether he is any inflammation of the throat with the inevitable high temperature, which can be frightening. If he does not and if he were my Son would be, I would not go ahead with the operation. He is still very young, and when he has no major problems almonds I would wait a little longer. Above Almonds also act as sponges and prevent some bacteria from reaching other parts of the body and cause infection. Whatever you decide, good luck.
