Scared of Tonsillectomy for Son?
My son has chronic ear infections. Tubes put in 2 years ago. Since they’ve fallen out hes been in the drs office with an ear infection at least once a month. He’s no longer responding to antibiotics because hes had them so frequently. His tonsils are HUGE. They are at stage 4 out of 4, they’re touching and you can’t see his uvula. ENT wants to put tubes back in, adenoids out, and is giving me the option of having his tonsils removed. ENT said the recovery is miserable and that unless hes having sleep apnea we probably shouldnt do it but hes leaving it up to me. He has a slight snore at night. Im just really confused and dont know what to do. Been in a similar situation? What’s the recovery like? Can they put the iv in after hes knocked out?
Yes,he needs those tonsils out,I would get that done soon. They are way too large and can interfere with his breathing, especially during his sleep. You don’t have much choice now that antibiotics are no longer working. His hearing is at risk if this continues. The iv is done very quick, just have him turn his head a minute. My son was sick for years, after getting his tonsils out he has hardly been sick at all other than the flu.No more throat infections, ear infections were much less.He will hurt for a few days, but he will be glad later. It’s much easier on him getting it done at a young age..
